Whether you’re interviewing for a new job, going on a blind date, or off to a party, nothing imparts confidence better than a bright, white smile. And there’s no better way to get one than with a professional tooth whitening treatment from Zoom.

Dr. Alieh Rastegari at Caspian Dental Center believes that professional teeth whitening is one of the most effective and inexpensive ways to brighten your smile. Here’s how the treatment works.

Whitening is a quick fix

There are many ways to brighten your smile, like veneers and bonding. But compared to these lengthy and costly procedures, teeth whitening is easy and fast.

Teeth whitening uses a concentrated hydrogen peroxide bleaching gel that you wear on your teeth for brief periods.

Caspian Dental Center uses the Zoom brand whitening method. We put a plastic guard in your mouth to protect your gums and lips from the bleach, and then apply the bleaching agent directly to your teeth. We use a bright light to activate the bleaching agent and speed the whitening process.

Zoom whitening takes about an hour and can provide dramatic results up to eight shades lighter in a single session.

The risk of teeth whitening is very minor. Your teeth may feel sensitive for a few days or weeks, depending on your sensitivity level, but we take every precaution to protect your gums and other oral soft tissues to prevent any issues.

Why Zoom is better than drugstore teeth-whitening kits

Although over-the-counter (OTC) teeth whitening kits are approved by the Food and Drug Administration, they’re not effectively regulated and are held to a lower cosmetic standard, rather than a medical standard.

Drugstore teeth-whitening kits use a lower concentration of hydrogen peroxide which requires you to apply the gel more often for up to several weeks. This frequency makes sensitivity and pain more likely.

OTC products are not custom-molded to your teeth, increasing the likelihood of bleach getting on your oral tissues like your gums and tongue.

In general, teeth whitening may not be a good solution if your teeth are discolored from trauma, taking tetracycline, or excessive fluoride exposure. In these cases, we can work with you to find another solution.

How to extend the results of your teeth whitening

The best way to keep your newly-whitened teeth looking bright is to limit your exposure to stain-causing foods and beverages like tea, red wine, coffee, and berries. Smoking or using other tobacco products also stains your teeth, so should be avoided. Also keep up your regular twice-a-day brushing and flossing to help prevent stains from returning.
